# Carry a reviewed project lesson into the next Claude Code run

> Scan an owned project note, run a bounded Claude analysis with the pinned revision, review its source-linked proposal, and load the accepted lesson next time.

An owned project note can change between Claude Code sessions. This local workflow records the exact note and question used for one new print session, saves the response when the process exits, and asks a person to check any proposed lesson before it becomes memory for the next run. It is designed for a reader who controls the files, can inspect Node.js code and has approved API or cloud-provider access.

The completed result takes two real sessions. After the first response, you accept a source-supported lesson. Before the second call, inspect `context` to confirm that it contains the first lesson's exact accepted revision. The supplied tests use a fake executable; they cannot prove what Claude will answer, what the provider will bill or whether the inference is sound.

## The big change

- **What changed:** A scan fixes the source bytes, rights note and task for the next analysis. Source text is treated as data, so a sentence inside a note cannot authorize a new instruction or action.
- **Why it matters:** The process writes a pending intent before a Claude call. Its exit produces a proposal, never an automatic memory update. A person checks the quote, inference and scope, then accepts or rejects the whole proposal hash.
- **What to watch:** Acceptance creates a new immutable fact revision. The next context names that revision. A missing or uncertain result holds the store until the owner reconciles it; the wrapper does not silently replay a potentially billed call.

If you already have a session transcript to curate by hand, use the [session export and reviewed learnings guide](https://bigchange.ai/blog/claude-code-session-export-reviewed-learnings-guide). For a one-off correction to an existing project note, see the [project memory correction guide](https://bigchange.ai/blog/claude-code-local-project-memory-correction-guide).

## 1. Check access and choose the inputs

Use Node.js 22 or newer and a current Claude Code CLI. On the machine that will make the call, inspect `claude --version` and `claude --help`; the unattended permission flags in this kit require CLI 2.1.259 or later. Choose a model actually available to your account. Set a small estimated US-dollar cap in `config.json`, then check account-side usage afterward: a CLI session can make multiple requests and the requested cap can overshoot. The local tests, scan, context view and preflight make no provider request.

This runner starts one bounded new print session with built-in and MCP tools disabled. It analyzes supplied text; it cannot change the project or capture an existing interactive conversation. The `--bare` invocation uses an approved Console API key in the private `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` environment variable for Anthropic's default route. Subscription sign-in alone does not supply that key. For a supported cloud-provider route, use that provider's private environment credentials and set `bareAuthRoute` to `provider-environment` with `providerCredentialAcknowledged` true. API or cloud-account usage may be billed separately from subscription usage. `preflight` checks only presence or acknowledgement, not credential validity, account compatibility or price.

Pick a local source that you own or may use for this purpose. Keep personal data and secrets out of the note, task, templates and saved outputs. Each source is limited to 4,096 bytes and copied into the private store's history. A rights note names who controls the material and what use is permitted. An exact quote only establishes provenance; you must still decide whether the proposed lesson follows from it.

## 2. Set up the private store

Save the eight complete files below in a working directory with these names. In a POSIX shell, move into that directory and run the local tests before preparing your own data. Keep the store outside any public repository; use a path you control and replace the example directory with the whole intended path. Quote it in every command if it contains spaces.

```sh
node --version
claude --version
claude --help
node offline-test.mjs
node integrity-test.mjs
node auth-preflight-test.mjs
STORE="$PWD/private-store"
mkdir -p "$STORE/owned"
cp config.template.json "$STORE/config.json"
cp sources.template.json "$STORE/sources.json"
cp task.template.txt "$STORE/owned/task.txt"
```

Write your real approved note to `$STORE/owned/project.txt`. Edit the task, `sources.json` and `config.json` with the complete paths and actual permissions in mind. Replace every placeholder and rights note. `sources.json` maps `project.txt` and `task.txt` under `owned/`; the configuration names `task.txt`. For a real provider attempt, change `authorizedProviderUse` to true only after choosing the credential route, model, cap, deadline and output limit. Supply credentials privately through the environment or secret manager; do not save them in these files. The fake tests use synthetic values and their own stores.

## 3. Run one session and review its proposal

From the directory containing `loop.mjs`, run these in order. The scan reports changed source keys; `context` shows pinned hashes and any accepted facts. Check that these refer to the intended task and note before the paid step. `preflight` is an access check; `run` is the provider call.

```sh
node loop.mjs scan "$STORE"
node loop.mjs context "$STORE"
node loop.mjs preflight "$STORE"
node loop.mjs run "$STORE"
```

The runner prints an attempt ID and the whole SHA-256 of its unreviewed proposal. Inspect `"$STORE/attempts/ID/context.json"`, `intent.json`, `result.json` and `proposal.json`, substituting the exact ID. Compare the quoted words with the recorded source hash and inspect the proposed inference, scope and rights. The reviewer name in the command is a self-declared label, not proof of identity. Use one decision and a specific reason:

```sh
node loop.mjs review "$STORE" ID accept PROPOSAL_SHA REVIEWER "why the quote supports this lesson"
node loop.mjs review "$STORE" ID reject PROPOSAL_SHA REVIEWER "why the inference fails"
```

Replace `ID`, `PROPOSAL_SHA` and `REVIEWER` with the actual printed values, without angle brackets. Accept only a lesson you can defend from the source. Acceptance writes an immutable review, version and commit before moving the head pointer. A changed source, stale predecessor or concurrent writer blocks promotion. Rejecting leaves the lesson out of memory.

## 4. Check the next session's exact context

For the second real session, update the approved task or note only if needed, then repeat `scan` and `context`. Verify the context's previous accepted revision before `run`, and review the second proposal on its own evidence. Completion requires two actual authorized print sessions with valid structured results, human review of both inferences, and a second saved context that names the first session's exact accepted revision. Check the account for actual usage and charges.

## 5. Recover an uncertain call

If the CLI errors, times out, exceeds the output cap or the host stops, inspect `"$STORE/active.json"` and its attempt directory. Keep the store private. Run:

```sh
node loop.mjs recover "$STORE"
```

Recovery can finish a saved result or durable commit without another Claude call. If no trustworthy result exists, the attempt remains unresolved and its bill is unknown. Check the account and any external state before deciding to abandon it. Then, if warranted, record a specific reconciliation reason:

```sh
node loop.mjs abandon "$STORE" ID "what was checked and why this attempt cannot be completed"
```

Abandonment records the uncertainty; it does not establish a zero charge. Do not delete pending files or hand-edit the head to force another call. Keep the owner and filesystem access controls around the store because it contains copied source text and proposal history. Decide its retention period before using sensitive material.

This is an owner-invoked local file workflow. It installs no scheduler, does not wrap an ordinary interactive chat, and does not monitor connected services. Claude Code's session `/loop` and its persistent task options are separate products. The local tests cover synthetic lifecycle, failure and recovery cases; no real Claude, provider, account, billing or scheduled run was performed for this guide.

## Complete reader files

Save each block under its stated filename in the working directory. Keep code and prior output separate from the private store. Do not paste a test fixture into a real proposal or claim it as a model result.
