NVIDIA says a smaller, faster DLSS 5 neural rendering model will reach *NBA 2K27* on October 16 and *Hogwarts Legacy* on November 5. The company also released a separate beta option for DLSS Frame Generation on October 13. Those are different changes, with different availability and hardware requirements.

DLSS 5 already appeared in *NBA 2K27* in September. The October update concerns the 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model that changes lighting and material details in the image. NVIDIA says pipeline and model changes cut its GPU overhead in half compared with the September version while keeping visual fidelity comparable. Its announcement lists a roughly 118-million-parameter model, 24% smaller than before, and 20% less VRAM use at 4K. These are NVIDIA's measurements and comparisons; BIG CHANGE has not reproduced them.

### What the model changes in a frame

NVIDIA describes neural rendering as a final stage after the game engine renders a frame. It uses that frame and the engine's geometry, textures and lighting buffers to alter the appearance of lighting and materials. The engine frame remains the basis of the scene, while developers can tune the result. In *Hogwarts Legacy*, NVIDIA says Avalanche Software used DLSS 5 SDK controls to preserve the game's intended style.

That matters because this feature has a different job from DLSS upscaling or Frame Generation. Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image; Frame Generation adds intermediate frames. The 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model changes details within a rendered frame. NVIDIA has published side-by-side images and video, but those examples and its performance figures are vendor evidence, not an independent test of how the update looks or runs across different scenes and PCs.

NVIDIA says the faster model will first update *NBA 2K27* on October 16 for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW. It claims frame rates in that game rise by up to 1.4 times. That figure is specific to the company's announced update; the post does not establish the same gain for *Hogwarts Legacy* or every supported machine.

The *Hogwarts Legacy* update is dated November 5 for RTX 50 Series, RTX Spark and GeForce NOW. It will add 3D-Guided Neural Rendering and update the game's other DLSS technologies to newer versions, according to NVIDIA. *Where Winds Meet* is due to receive the feature in late November. RTX Remix, NVIDIA's modding platform, is scheduled to add the faster model on October 23, with controls for modders to choose which scene elements it affects. These dates describe announced releases as of October 13; the *Hogwarts Legacy* update and RTX Remix addition were not yet available when this article was prepared.

### A separate Frame Generation beta is available now

The immediately available change is **Preset C**, a Performance Mode for Frame Generation in the October 13 NVIDIA app beta. NVIDIA says its Frame Generation system uses one model informed by game motion and depth data and another to calculate optical flow for elements such as UI or ray-traced effects. Preset C replaces the second model with a lighter algorithm. NVIDIA reports up to 35% faster Frame Generation on a GeForce RTX 5060, with minor image-quality trade-offs. That result does not measure the neural rendering model above.

NVIDIA lists RTX 40 Series and RTX 50 Series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops for this beta. A player with a supported Frame Generation game must opt in to beta features in the NVIDIA app, install the beta update and choose Preset C under **Graphics → Driver Settings → DLSS Override - Model Presets**. The option can be set for a supported game or globally. NVIDIA advises rebooting if Preset C does not appear. Availability of the app override does not make a game compatible with DLSS 5 neural rendering; game and hardware support must be checked separately.

### The big change

NVIDIA has put dates and hardware categories on the next DLSS 5 rollout while giving developers and modders a smaller neural rendering model to work with. Players can try the distinct Frame Generation Preset C beta now, but must wait for the dated game updates to evaluate the revised neural rendering model. The claimed overhead, memory and frame-rate improvements come from NVIDIA's announcement; independent image-quality and performance results for these releases remain to be established.
