Genspark Design's [help guide](https://www.genspark.ai/helpcenter/genspark-design) describes a way to preserve a prototype before changing it: duplicate the project, check the copy's sharing access, edit it, then use **Download** to get its project source as a ZIP. This guide follows that documented route for an existing project. BIG CHANGE has not used a Genspark account, made a duplicate or inspected a resulting ZIP, so check the controls and downloaded files in your own project before relying on them.

## The big change

- **What changed:** Genspark documents a separate source download beside **Build it**. A team can keep an editable project copy and take a local source snapshot without first asking Design to create a runnable website or app.
- **Why it matters:** The copy gives a designer room for a limited edit while retaining the original. The ZIP lets a developer inspect what was exported before deciding whether any of it belongs in an app project. Duplication also carries the project's conversations, so the copy still needs careful access control.
- **What to watch:** Design bills credit-consuming AI work even when a redraw is discarded. Check **Credit Usage → Design** before an edit that could trigger generation. Open **Share** on the duplicate and verify its access: a public link lets anyone with the URL see the design, source files, history and downloads.

## Before you start

You need access to Genspark Design, permission to copy an existing prototype, enough credits for any AI generation you choose to run, and a computer that can download and open ZIP archives. Genspark says Design is available across plans but is **outside Free Quota**. It does not give a fixed price for this task: credit use depends on the agent's work, and a retry or redraw can add another charge. The account's **Credit Usage → Design** view is the documented place to inspect consumption.

Choose one small text or style change you can identify afterward, such as changing the wording of a selected element. Keep project files and conversations in mind when choosing who can access the copy. Genspark says **Duplicate** carries both.

## Copy, edit and download

1. Open the existing project from **My Designs** on the Design home page. Use that project's menu to choose **Duplicate**, then open the new copy. Keep the original available for comparison. Genspark recommends duplication to preserve a version before a significant change; the **History** panel displays older states but cannot restore them.
2. Before editing, open **Share** on the duplicate. Verify that link access is **Restricted** and inspect any invited viewers or editors. Do not assume the copy kept or changed the original's sharing settings. If access is broader than intended, resolve it in the project's sharing controls or with the project owner before continuing. Genspark says a public link exposes the design, source files, history and downloads without sign-in; duplication also carries the project's files and conversations.
3. In the copy, select the element you want to change and use **Edit** in the Canvas toolbar. Make one text or style edit and inspect the result before doing more. Genspark says simple text and style changes usually apply directly. A change that cannot be applied directly, or one that changes layout, structure or elements, can start a new AI generation, charge credits and alter other parts of the design. Stop if the requested change is expanding beyond the single element you intended.
4. Wait for any generation to finish. In the top bar, choose **Download**, the separate control beside **Build it**. Genspark describes this download as a ZIP of project source files and says the control is disabled while generation runs. Save the ZIP locally. Do not choose **Build it → Website / App** for this source-inspection task; Genspark describes that route as creating a runnable site or app within Design.
5. Open the downloaded ZIP with your computer's archive viewer. List the filenames and folders you actually find, then inspect the relevant source files before moving them into another project. The help guide does not specify a guaranteed directory layout or certify that the exported code is ready for deployment. This local inspection step is a reader check, not a result BIG CHANGE observed.

The stopping point is a retained original, an edited copy whose **Share** settings you checked for restricted and intended access, and a local ZIP whose actual contents you have inventoried. Downloading source does not itself mean that you ran, tested or published a website or app.

## If a step fails or carries more risk than expected

- **No project or Duplicate control:** Check that you are in Genspark Design and can open a project you own or have permission to edit. Genspark's help page places existing work in **My Designs** and **Duplicate** in the project menu. Do not assume a shared project grants the same controls.
- **Download is disabled:** Check whether generation is still running and wait for it to finish. If it remains unavailable, check the project's state and account access before attempting another paid run; the help page also says export availability can vary by plan.
- **The edit changed other elements:** Compare the copy with the original and stop before further changes. **History** is view-only, and asking the AI to reverse an edit starts another billed generation that may not recreate the earlier state. Make a fresh duplicate of the version you want to preserve before trying a different edit.
- **Credit use is higher than intended:** Inspect **Credit Usage → Design** before another attempt. Genspark bills AI work, including retries and discarded redraws; a small direct text or style edit is the more bounded choice.
- **A public link was enabled:** In **Share**, return the project to **Restricted**. Genspark says this removes access through the public link. A public link can already have exposed the design, source, history and downloads to anyone who had the URL; changing the setting cannot establish who previously viewed or saved them.

The vendor's manual documents **Duplicate**, **Edit**, **Download**, **Build it**, credit use, **History** and sharing. It is the basis for this procedure. It does not provide a ZIP directory inventory or a BIG CHANGE hands-on result; check the live interface and your own exported files.
