Google began a limited US preview of [Call for Me on September 24](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/469762854/let-gemini-handle-routine-business-calls-on-pixel?hl=en-AU). On an eligible Pixel 11, a person can ask Gemini to phone a business, move through its menu, wait on hold and speak to an employee about a routine request. The person can follow a live transcript and take over the call. Google says the preview is rolling out gradually over two weeks; it is an experiment, not a general release.

## The big change

- **What changed:** Pixel's calling assistance can now conduct a business conversation after the user approves a specific task and starts the call. Existing Hold for Me waits during a call the person placed; Call for Me can place it and speak.
- **Why it matters:** A customer can delegate a reservation or stock inquiry while keeping a live view of the exchange. The receiving business hears an AI assistant identify itself on a recorded line, so the interaction also puts Google's disclosure and accuracy promises into an ordinary customer call.
- **What to watch:** Google's two-week rollout limits who can try the feature. The test's practical value depends on how reliably Gemini handles actual menus and conversations, including misunderstandings that require the user to take over. Google has not published a completion rate in its announcement.

## Who can use it

[Google's eligibility instructions](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/18336420?hl=en) require users to be at least 18 and in the US, with a Pixel 11, a US SIM, a Google AI subscription, the Phone by Google public beta, the latest Gemini mobile app and an English device language. Even people who meet those conditions may have to wait for the staged rollout. For now, Gemini can call only US phone numbers.

The call uses the phone's mobile network and the customer's own number, so standard carrier rates apply. It is for personal requests: [Google's additional terms](https://policies.google.com/terms/generative-ai/gemini-agentic-calling) forbid using it to call on behalf of a business, government agency or law enforcement.

## What the caller and business hear

The user starts in the Gemini app and describes the task. Google's help page lists checking hours or availability, seeking a service quote, and booking or managing reservations and appointments. Before dialing, Gemini presents a summary with the number and the details it plans to share. The user can revise that plan, then tap **Call for me**.

Google says Gemini can navigate menus, wait on hold and handle the conversation. At the start of every call, it [identifies itself as a Google AI assistant](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/18336420?hl=en) calling on the user's behalf, states the user's name and says the line is recorded. The additional terms say users cannot disable or obscure that disclosure. A business can [opt out of automated calls from Gemini users](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/18336420?hl=en).

The user can read the live transcript or listen to the call; the microphone starts muted. Tapping **Take over** unmutes it, and Gemini announces the handoff before leaving. Afterward, the Gemini app provides a summary. The Phone app retains a transcript and an audio recording in local call history. [Google's privacy explanation](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/13594961) says it stores transcripts on its servers, not the call audio, and does not use either to train its AI models.

The feature has daily call limits, though Google's help page does not give a number. It cannot make emergency calls, payments or other financial transactions, relay sensitive personal information such as passwords or health information, or make telemarketing calls. Google's terms also warn that the assistant can misinterpret a response and do not guarantee that it will finish every task. [WIRED reported](https://www.wired.com/story/googles-gemini-can-now-make-calls-for-you-on-pixel-phones/) that Google wants the experiment to test varied accents and noisy environments, citing a company spokesperson.

## How it differs from Google's other calling tools

Call for Me is separate from [Google Search's “Let Google call” shopping feature](https://support.google.com/googleshopping/answer/16742225?hl=en) and [Pixel's Hold for Me](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/10071878?hl=en). Search can contact nearby stores about a product found through a “near me” search, then send the shopper a report by text or email. Its product and state restrictions belong to that Search service, not to the Pixel 11 preview. Hold for Me starts after the person places a business call and waits for a representative to return. The new beta lets Gemini initiate a call and conduct the exchange within the task the user approves.
