# Nscale’s Loughton AI campus faces reported grid wait into 2030s

Nscale’s planned AI computing campus in Loughton, Essex, faces a reported wait for sufficient grid power that could run into the 2030s. Nscale said the facility would support Microsoft Azure services in the UK. Microsoft [confirmed](https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2025/09/18/inside-the-worlds-most-powerful-ai-datacenter/) the partnership to build a UK supercomputer supporting its services. Neither announcement gives a grid connection date.

The specific 2030s timetable rests on reporting. The Guardian quotes UKPN saying it cannot discuss an individual project. UKPN said many data centres seeking distribution-network connections await work on the wider transmission network before they can operate. Nscale told the Guardian it remained committed to Loughton and was examining on-site generation and ways to accelerate a connection. The report gives no delivery date for either option.

Nscale specified 50 megawatts as the initial facility capacity and 90 megawatts as a possible scale.
