# NVIDIA's $2,000 software remark leaves the license scope unresolved

In an October 22 report on a Berlin Q&A, [The Register](https://www.theregister.com/ai-and-ml/2026/10/22/nvidias-huang-dont-mention-the-ai-pocalypse/5304743) attributed to Jensen Huang an approximate $2,000-per-GPU annual price for NVIDIA software licensing. NVIDIA's [published AI Enterprise price schedule](https://docs.nvidia.com/ai-enterprise/planning-resource/licensing-guide/latest/pricing.html), last updated September 2, lists a one-year self-managed subscription at $4,500 per GPU with Business Standard support. The report does not identify the product, purchasing route or support terms behind Huang's figure. The two numbers therefore cannot establish a new price or a cut to the listed subscription.

## The big change

- **What changed:** Huang's reported figure gives buyers a price reference to clarify. Its product and terms remain unspecified in the Q&A account.
- **Why it matters:** A per-GPU annual figure is incomplete without the licensed product, deployment route, GPU count and support entitlement. Those details determine which published terms, if any, can be compared with the remark.
- **What to watch:** A written offer or updated schedule specifying the software, eligible hardware, term and support would settle the comparison. The Q&A account alone does not.

## What the published guide actually covers

NVIDIA calls its [AI Enterprise guide](https://docs.nvidia.com/ai-enterprise/planning-resource/licensing-guide/latest/overview.html) a high-level reference; the end-user agreement supplies detailed terms. The [licensing section](https://docs.nvidia.com/ai-enterprise/planning-resource/licensing-guide/latest/licensing.html) counts every GPU installed in a server or workstation hosting included software, including idle GPUs and each GPU on multi-GPU cards. For cloud bring-your-own-license deployments, the count follows GPUs running the software.

[Cloud marketplace](https://docs.nvidia.com/ai-enterprise/planning-resource/licensing-guide/latest/pricing.html) production is $1 per GPU-hour **plus instance cost**, with support limited to three calls; private offers have custom quotes. Converting the hourly rate into an annual number would still leave utilization, infrastructure charges and support scope to establish.

There are further qualifications to a comparison. NVIDIA says some [specified GPUs include AI Enterprise subscriptions](https://docs.nvidia.com/ai-enterprise/planning-resource/licensing-guide/latest/licensing.html), while cloud availability can differ by provider and software component. A buyer should first identify the exact software and deployment in a written quote, then verify which GPUs need licenses, whether an included entitlement applies, and what support is covered. The published guide documents those questions; it does not tell us what Huang included in the reported $2,000 figure. BIG CHANGE did not obtain a quote or deploy the software.
