On October 28, [Strava announced](https://press.strava.com/articles/strava-now-integrated-as-a-connected-app-in-google-gemini-enabling-users-to-get-more-personalized-training-insights) a US rollout for subscribers across Gemini plans.

## The big change

- Conversation can reveal patterns across workouts, but answers depend on recorded data.
- Read-only access prevents edits; privacy also depends on the conversation’s handling.
- An assistant can describe an apparent pattern without establishing its cause. The distinction matters when an appealing explanation might influence a person’s next training decision.

## How the connection works

Strava’s remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector retrieves live account data, including subscription analytics. Access is read-only and rate-limited.

In Gemini’s connectors, select Strava, sign in and authorize Gemini’s access. Revoke access in Strava’s My Apps or disconnect in Gemini. Authorization persists, allowing later questions to retrieve current records instead of a snapshot.

## Eligibility and reliability

[Google’s Strava listing](https://support.google.com/gemini/table/17434654?hl=en-0) requires a personal Google account, US location, English, age 18+ and paid Strava subscription. It lists Gemini web, mobile and Windows apps, for chats and tasks.

An incomplete history can omit context, making plausible interpretations misleading. A pattern does not establish its cause; check consequential interpretations against the underlying activities. [Google cautions](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/13594961?hl=en) against relying on Gemini for diagnosis, treatment or medical advice. BIG CHANGE has not independently tested the integration or validated its training recommendations.

## Privacy extends beyond the connection

[Google’s Gemini privacy notice](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/13594961?hl=en) says connected-app information may help provide and improve Gemini, and some data is reviewed by humans. With Keep Activity on, activity can be used to train generative AI. When it is off, future chats are not used to train models unless feedback is sent; Google says some connected apps may then be unavailable. Google does not identify Strava specifically in that statement.

Google says chats with Keep Activity off are retained for 72 hours. Human-reviewed chats and related data may remain for up to three years even after activity deletion. Disconnecting Strava or deleting its records does not delete Gemini activity; deleting Gemini activity does not delete data held by other apps. Review each service’s controls separately.
