# YouTube’s creator AI can review drafts now. Conversational editing waits until 2027

> YouTube's September creator announcements span tools you can use now and others still rolling out. Here's how draft feedback, thumbnail tests and future editing differ.

At its September 23 Made on YouTube event, YouTube described a creator workflow that reaches from draft feedback to thumbnail selection and video editing. [Ask Studio already has a help page for reviewing unpublished videos on desktop](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16291691?hl=en); the new conversational editor for Shorts and YouTube Create is [due to begin rolling out globally on Android and iPhone in early 2027](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/464270211/new-features-for-the-youtube-era-made-on-youtube-2026?hl=en). Other Studio additions are arriving in stages.

The tools give YouTube different roles in a creator’s work: offering advice, making an image or an edit, and choosing what viewers see. Each role comes with different controls and a different rollout timetable.

## The big change

- **What changed:** YouTube is extending its existing Studio assistant from channel questions and ideas into feedback on unpublished work. It also plans editing by conversation and thumbnail choices tailored to viewers. [The September 23 announcement](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/made-on-youtube-new-tools-power-creation-journey/) describes these as one production flow, although they are at different release stages.
- **Why it matters:** A creator can already request suggestions on a script or uploaded draft without publishing it. The proposed thumbnail tools would move another choice into YouTube’s own system: which of several images a viewer sees. That gives creators a reason to check exactly which options they approved for display.
- **What to watch:** YouTube’s rollout notices and Studio controls will determine when the newer features reach a channel. The company says the tools are optional and creators retain final approval over publishing. It has reported no measured performance gain from these new workflows.

## A draft can get feedback before it goes live

[YouTube’s Ask Studio documentation](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16291691?hl=en) says creators can paste a script or select a draft, private or unlisted video from their channel for suggestions based on creative best practices. YouTube’s [new announcement](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/made-on-youtube-new-tools-power-creation-journey/) adds feedback on pacing, structure and storytelling. This is a critique of material the creator supplies, not automatic publication or a demonstrated improvement in the finished video. YouTube says the suggestions can be accepted or ignored.

Ask Studio itself predates this event. [YouTube introduced it in 2025](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/youtube-studio-made-on-youtube-2025/) for questions about channel analytics, comments and ideas. As of September 23, its [help page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16291691?hl=en) says it is available to most creators globally in a computer web browser. Official Artist Channels, Made for Kids channels and creators under 18 are excluded. A missing Ask Studio button in the top corner of Studio means the channel does not have access. YouTube says mobile access is coming, without giving a date for that specific expansion.

There is a practical boundary before sharing an unreleased script. YouTube says it collects Ask Studio conversations and feedback, may have human reviewers read conversations to improve the tool, and advises against entering confidential information. Its [help page](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16291691?hl=en) says conversation history is kept for 30 days, with manual deletion available. Creators should weigh that documented handling before using the assistant for material they have not released.

## Making a thumbnail and testing one are separate jobs

YouTube had already [introduced thumbnail generation in Ask Studio in July](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/youtube-studio-custom-thumbnail-updates/). A creator can ask it to make an image for a long-form video and revise colors or layout in chat. The September proposal concerns what happens after thumbnails are made: [dynamic thumbnails](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/made-on-youtube-new-tools-power-creation-journey/) would let a creator supply up to three options while YouTube recommends a different one to different audience segments. Its [creator community post](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/464270211/new-features-for-the-youtube-era-made-on-youtube-2026?hl=en) says the feature is coming soon but gives no feature-specific eligibility rule or launch date.

Creators can already [A/B test up to three titles or thumbnails](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16391400?hl=en) in Studio. The test compares the options a creator submits. YouTube’s current help page says the version with the highest watch-time share becomes the one shown to everyone after the test. If there is no clear winner, the first option becomes the default. Creators can change it manually. The test is on desktop for channels with advanced features enabled, and it excludes Shorts, scheduled live streams, premieres before conversion, private videos and some restricted content. A creator who wants a usable control today can check that existing Studio test, with those limits in mind.

Dynamic thumbnails would work differently from that present-day test. [YouTube says](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/464270211/new-features-for-the-youtube-era-made-on-youtube-2026?hl=en) it will show the best of three uploaded images to different audiences. It has also proposed testing up to three *cuts of a video* to compare openings, but calls that feature “coming soon” in the [September announcement](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/made-on-youtube-new-tools-power-creation-journey/). The current [title and thumbnail testing instructions](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16391400?hl=en) do not describe video cut tests. Treating all three as a feature already present in the A/B menu would send creators looking for controls that YouTube has yet to document there.

YouTube also says Ask Studio will suggest and test refreshed thumbnails for older uploads. Its [creator community announcement](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/464270211/new-features-for-the-youtube-era-made-on-youtube-2026?hl=en) says creators stay in control. The company has not published a separate eligibility rule or launch date for that workflow in the materials reviewed here. No result about extra views follows from the announcement.

## Editing by conversation has a later start

The new Gemini-powered editor is the clearest dated future release. According to [YouTube’s event post](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/made-on-youtube-new-tools-power-creation-journey/), a creator will start with suggested or original prompts, then ask the tool to reorder frames, trim footage or sync music. The [creator community post](https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/464270211/new-features-for-the-youtube-era-made-on-youtube-2026?hl=en) adds that creators will choose photos and videos for a first draft, receive chat suggestions, and be able to return to the manual timeline. YouTube says the feature will begin rolling out globally on Android and iPhone in early 2027. That is the schedule for this conversational editing feature, not a claim that every announced Studio tool waits until then.

The same September community post says the wider set of Studio upgrades will roll out globally across mobile and desktop from now through 2027. That broad window does not tell a creator when dynamic thumbnails, new Insights and Research screens, or video cut tests will appear on their own channel. For now, YouTube’s published controls give the clearest route to using Ask Studio’s desktop feedback and the established title and thumbnail test. The newer tools deserve another look when their actual menus, eligibility and behavior are documented.
