1Password announced a way for supported AI agents to sign in to websites without receiving the passwords stored in a user's vault. The company introduced 1Password for Agents on October 22, but its partner connections are at different stages. Meta Muse and SpaceXSI Grok Bot integrations are rolling out over the coming days, while the company describes its Claude Duet, OpenAI ChatGPT Work and dots, and Town Townie integrations as coming soon.
The useful boundary is at the sign-in screen. An agent requests a saved login, the person reviews and approves the request on their own device, and 1Password fills the credential into the website. The agent can then continue in the signed-in account without seeing the password or one-time code, according to [1Password's announcement](https://1password.com/press/2026/october/1password-for-agents-trust-layer-personal-ai-agents) and [product FAQ](https://1password.com/personal-ai-agent-integrations). That design protects the credential from being handed to the agent. It does not, by itself, limit everything the agent may read or do after login.
## The big change
- **What changed:** 1Password introduced an approval and autofill path for supported agents that need a saved website login.
- **Why it matters:** A person can approve a specific login request without pasting a secret into an agent conversation or giving the agent access to the whole vault.
- **What to watch:** Once inside an account, an agent may be able to see information or take actions there. Partner access and further safeguards vary; the announced connections are not all available yet.
## How the sign-in approval works
When a supported agent reaches a login form, 1Password says it uses a unique digital key to identify itself. The person sees which credential it requests and why, then approves or denies it on their device. If several saved logins match, they can choose which to use. 1Password fills the password or one-time code into the sign-in page and reports access to the agent. The company says connecting an agent does not expose the rest of the vault.
Approval frequency can vary by integration, the [1Password FAQ](https://1password.com/personal-ai-agent-integrations) says. The individual partner pages for [Muse](https://1password.com/partners/meta-muse) and [Grok Bot](https://1password.com/partners/spacexsi-grokbot) also describe an option to disconnect those agents from future use of saved logins. These are descriptions of the intended product flow, not results from an independent test of the integration or its security.
## Integration rollout and access
1Password's [October 22 product announcement](https://1password.com/blog/1password-for-ai-agents) distinguishes the partner stages. Muse and Grok Bot integrations are rolling out over the coming days across platforms. Claude Duet and OpenAI ChatGPT Work and dots are listed as coming soon; Town Townie is listed as coming soon for web and iOS. Other named partners, including Browserbase, Browser Use, Perplexity and Ramp, are also described as future integrations. The current [integration page](https://1password.com/personal-ai-agent-integrations) offers a waitlist and directs readers to check each connection's details. A partnership announcement therefore does not establish that every named agent can connect today.
1Password says the feature is included at no additional charge in its Individual and Families plans on 1password.com. Its blog says accounts hosted on 1password.eu or 1password.ca are not currently supported; the Grok Bot partner page also excludes Business and Team Starter Pack accounts from that integration. Availability and setup may differ by region, device, sign-in method and partner. The no-additional-charge statement describes the 1Password feature, not the price of a separate agent subscription or purchases an agent might make through a signed-in account.
## The boundary after login
Hiding a password addresses credential exposure, while a successful sign-in still gives the agent a session in the selected account. [1Password's own FAQ](https://1password.com/personal-ai-agent-integrations) says the agent may be able to see information or take actions there, depending on the agent and website. Its Muse page separately says Muse asks for confirmation before sensitive actions such as a purchase or email. That partner-specific statement should not be assumed for every integration or every action.
For people deciding whether to delegate a task, the account selected for approval matters as much as the password handoff. A login to an account with purchasing, messaging or file permissions can give the agent access to those functions according to the website and the agent's controls. 1Password's published material does not establish a universal restriction on what an agent can do inside an approved account, nor provide independent evidence of how reliably the safeguards work in use.
This is a separate development from [Claude Duet's background-work preview](https://bigchange.ai/blog/claude-duet-background-agent-preview-approval) and BIG CHANGE's [OpenAI Dot permissions guide](https://bigchange.ai/blog/openai-dot-setup-permissions-pause-guide). Those stories address the agents' work and user controls; 1Password's announcement concerns how a supported agent obtains a login when it encounters a sign-in form.
