Amazon began rolling out Alexa+ in Japan on October 29. Early access is free; afterward, standalone access costs approximately $19 monthly, with no additional Alexa+ charge for Prime members. The conversion uses an October 28 exchange rate.
The big change
- The briefing demonstration shows how a voice assistant can turn information in an uploaded document into an answer and a calendar entry, linking a question to a practical task.
- The free trial lets invited users assess that workflow before the choice becomes a recurring expense or a Prime benefit.
- Future integrations would extend that workflow to outside transactions, but their launch remains separate from what customers can try now.
Access and capabilities
Amazon says eligible Echo and Fire TV owners and buyers will be invited. Request an invitation at Amazon's Alexa+ page. Some models are excluded; after activation, Alexa+ works in the app and at alexa.jp.
ITmedia reported that a briefing demonstration used a photograph of a leaflet: Alexa+ answered questions about it and added an appointment to a calendar. Amazon describes follow-up conversations, calendars and smart-home routines. Connected home controls require compatible equipment and setup. Tabelog bookings, Uber Eats and Demae-can delivery, and Ticket Pia purchases are planned for later. BIG CHANGE reviewed the announcements and independent reporting; it did not test Alexa+ in Japan.
