Apple plans to bring Apple Intelligence to eligible iPhones in mainland China: a developer beta begins November 4, with iOS 27.3 planned for December, it [announced](https://www.apple.com.cn/newsroom/2026/10/apple-intelligence-features-are-coming-to-users-in-china/) October 31.

## The big change

- What changed: Built-in writing, translation and photo tools are planned for eligible phones.
- Why it matters: Qwen adds optional assistance in selected workflows, with sign-in required.
- What to watch: Siri AI and other 2026 next-generation features are excluded.

## Apple tools and Qwen access

Apple says its models power the initial writing, translation and photo tools. Qwen extends Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence: users can ask about documents or compose text. Access requires a Qwen account or Sign in with Apple.

[Jiemian](https://www.jiemian.com/article/15277073.html) reports that Alibaba says users choose whether to enable Qwen, when to use it and what information to share. Alibaba also says requests and generated responses will not be used to train its models. These are the company’s stated conditions, not an independent audit of data handling.

## Eligibility

Eligible devices: iPhone 16 and later, iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Apple lists English and Simplified Chinese for both device and Siri language; it does not clearly specify pairing. Other platforms need approvals.

## Siri AI

In its [June WWDC announcement](https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2026/06/apple-unveils-next-generation-of-apple-intelligence-siri-ai-and-more/), Apple described Siri AI as an assistant designed to search messages, email and photos using personal context, take actions across apps and answer questions about onscreen content. It also described an app for revisiting conversations. At the time, Apple said Siri AI and the other new features would not be available in China while it worked through regulatory requirements.

That earlier description is a product claim, not an independent measure of reliability or privacy. The capabilities Apple described span several kinds of activity, from retrieving personal information to acting inside apps. People considering those uses need the specific feature list and conditions available in their market; a broad product name alone cannot establish them.
