Doctolib announced a planned minority investment from NVIDIA on October 13 to expand its healthcare AI work. The company says the investment would support hiring and model development in Europe. Neither an investment amount nor the size of the stake was disclosed; Reuters reported that NVIDIA had agreed to acquire a minority holding. ## The big change

- **What changed:** Doctolib plans to deepen an existing NVIDIA technology relationship as it develops medical AI models and assistants. It intends to use the investment to expand its own development teams and training work in Europe.
- **Why it matters:** Its existing consultation tool puts generated text into a clinician's review workflow. Moving into clinical decision support and patient health questions expands the responsibility of the proposed tools, and makes their evaluation a separate question from how much they are used.
- **What to watch:** Doctolib describes limited use of its patient assistant and broader availability in 2027. Release details and evidence for its clinical capabilities will determine what patients and professionals can use beyond the current documentation tools.

## Existing assistants and planned clinical tools

Doctolib says its consultation assistant has documented more than 12 million patient visits. It describes an internally developed speech-recognition model specialised in medical vocabulary across several languages. The announcement reports activity without giving clinical outcome data.

The company's spring 2026 product page describes customisable consultation and letter templates. It also lists a telephone assistant that handles appointment cancellations, with availability for solo private-practice doctors and a gradual rollout to group practices. Both features appear in product documentation that predates the investment announcement. [Spring 2026 product details](https://info.doctolib.fr/doctolib-innovations-medecin-printemps-2026/).

Clinical decision-support assistants remain development work in the October announcement. For patients, a same-day post by Doctolib's community team says its personal AI health assistant is already used by 400,000 people in France and will become available to everyone in 2027. The post does not specify that broader rollout's eligibility or provide an evaluation of the assistant's health answers. ## Model control and patient data

Doctolib says it will develop models using open-weight and open-source models and increase investment in European infrastructure. Its announcement states that health data and AI models are hosted in the EU and UK under its sole control. The community update adds that the minority investment carries no governance rights or board seat, and says partners and investors have no access to health data. These are Doctolib's statements about the arrangement; the announcement provides no contract or independent audit of those commitments.

An existing patient-consent process covers reuse of consultation data. Doctolib's French patient help page, last modified June 3, 2026, says consenting permits reuse of consultation audio, transcripts and clinician-validated summaries for AI development and medical research. It says data are pseudonymised, sometimes anonymised, retained for three years, and that consent can be changed or withdrawn. [Patient consent documentation](https://doctolibpatient.zendesk.com/hc/fr/articles/26436006805404-G%C3%A9rer-mon-consentement-aux-enregistrements-audio-des-consultations).

The same help page describes a professional reviewing the recording and correcting or completing generated text. That human review is a concrete part of the documented consultation workflow. Doctolib's investment announcement supplies no clinical accuracy results for its proposed decision-support assistants. BIG CHANGE reviewed these public documents and has not tested the assistants or audited their data handling.
