Google is changing which models people can use in Gemini Apps with a personal account starting in October 2026. Its [Gemini Apps Help notice](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17004136?hl=en) gives a model list for each Google AI plan once the change reaches that account. The change starts taking effect on October 9 for people without an AI subscription. AI Plus subscribers should receive an email with their effective date.
## The big change
- **What changed:** Google's stated model menu for personal accounts differs by AI plan after the change takes effect. The no-plan tier lists Flash-Lite, AI Plus lists Flash-Lite and Flash, and AI Pro and AI Ultra list all three models, including Pro.
- **Why it matters:** The plan alone does not tell a user when the new selection applies. Google's table describes access after the change, so it does not establish what an individual account can select before its effective date.
- **What to watch:** October 9 begins the change for users without a subscription. Google says AI Plus subscribers should receive an email with their effective date. The Help page gives no single date for that tier or a dated October timetable for AI Pro and AI Ultra.
## Model access after the change
Google's [post-change table](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17004136?hl=en) lists three Gemini models. A check mark in the table means the model is available for that plan after the change takes effect.
| Google AI plan | Flash-Lite | Flash | Pro |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Without a plan | Available | No | No |
| AI Plus | Available | Available | No |
| AI Pro | Available | Available | Available |
| AI Ultra | Available | Available | Available |
The clearest dividing line is Pro access. Google's post-change table includes it for AI Pro and AI Ultra, but not for the no-plan or AI Plus tiers. The notice does not put a price beside any tier, so the table alone cannot answer what a change of plan would cost.
## Timing depends on the account
The notice says the changes start in October 2026 for Gemini Apps used with a personal account. It gives October 9 as the start for users without an AI subscription. For AI Plus, Google says subscribers should receive an email explaining when the changes take effect for them. It gives no date for AI Pro or AI Ultra in that rollout paragraph.
The table describes model availability *after* the changes take effect. October 9 is the start for people without a subscription, not a stated date for every personal account. An AI Plus subscriber should look for Google's email to learn their own effective date.
Google also says users can choose low, medium or high effort for each available model; higher effort uses more of the account's limit. AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers have access to a Deep Think option, according to the same Help page. Those controls sit alongside model availability and do not change which rows of the table include Pro.

- [Google Gemini Apps Help: “Changes to Gemini model access and limits”](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17004136?hl=en). Checked October 5, 2026. This is the primary notice for the personal-account scope, effective-date wording and post-change model table, as well as the effort-level and Deep Think notes. The page shows no publication or update date. Its “Previous changes” section records earlier May and July usage-limit changes; those are separate from the October model-access notice. It does not state plan prices, an AI Plus date shared by all subscribers, or an October date for AI Pro and AI Ultra.

Tips cover effort levels and Deep Think. The page's earlier usage-limit history is marked Previous changes. No plan prices or dated October schedule for AI Pro/Ultra are stated in the relevant notice. BIG CHANGE did not test an account.
