OpenAI has agreed to acquire Pierre Computer, whose tools already support file navigation and code review in the Codex app. Regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions remain.

The big change

  • Trees and Diffs already help Codex users navigate files and review changes.
  • Code Storage features are planned for Codex after closing; OpenAI has not given an integration date.
  • Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source, OpenAI says, and Code Storage customers can continue using the service after closing.

What the tools do

In its November 4 announcement, OpenAI says Trees displays project files and Diffs shows changes. Diffs also lets a reviewer edit a line where they spot an issue. Those tools are already in the Codex app.

Pierre describes Code Storage as a programmable Git-based service for storing repositories and working with their history. Its current offering includes native Git access, software development kits and webhooks that can connect other tools. Developers can use those interfaces to build applications around stored code.

The two companies remain independent until the deal closes. OpenAI has not specified a price or a date for the proposed integration.
