Salesforce has agreed to buy customer engagement platform Braze in a transaction valued at approximately $5.66 billion on an enterprise-value basis. The companies [announced the agreement](https://www.salesforce.com/news/press-releases/2026/10/20/salesforce-signs-definitive-agreement-to-acquire-braze/) on October 20. Braze shareholders would receive $47.50 in cash for each eligible Class A share if the deal closes.
The proposed acquisition gives Salesforce a route to add Braze's mobile and cross-channel messaging to Marketing Cloud. Braze already uses customer activity to trigger and coordinate messages, and it already offers AI decisioning. Salesforce's proposed combination with its own customer data and Agentforce products remains a plan, with no completed integration to assess.
## The big change
- **What changed:** Salesforce has a signed agreement to acquire Braze's existing real-time messaging and AI decisioning capabilities. A combined product would require the deal to close and the companies to integrate their systems.
- **Why it matters:** Marketing teams evaluating the platforms can assess Braze's current tools today. The agreement provides no combined Salesforce service yet, so its proposed benefits cannot be judged from a shipped integration.
- **What to watch:** Braze's board approved the agreement, but a majority Class A shareholder vote, antitrust clearance and other conditions remain. The companies expect a close in fiscal 2028, beginning February 1, 2027; that timetable is conditional.
## What Braze brings today
Braze collects activity from websites and apps through its [software development kits](https://www.braze.com/docs/user_guide/get_started/sdk_overview), as well as data supplied through APIs and other integrations. Marketers can use that information to enter customers into campaigns and journeys and send messages through channels including push notifications, in-app messages, email, SMS and WhatsApp. Its [Canvas documentation](https://www.braze.com/docs/user_guide/messaging/canvas/create_a_canvas) describes journeys that can start on a schedule, after an action or from an API request.
BrazeAI Decisioning Studio is also an existing Braze product. Braze [describes it](https://www.braze.com/resources/articles/what-is-offerfit) as using reinforcement learning to choose among messaging, channel, timing and offer options for individual customers. That description explains Braze's product claims; it does not establish how well a combined Salesforce and Braze system would perform.
Salesforce says Braze serves approximately 2,770 customers. The number and the claimed scale of Braze's message processing come from the companies' announcement, rather than an independent measurement by BIG CHANGE.
## What Salesforce proposes to combine
Salesforce says it expects Braze's real-time engagement and AI decisioning to complement Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce and SIForce after closing. It specifically expects Braze to strengthen Marketing Cloud's cross-channel personalization. The companies also say combining Braze's decisioning with Salesforce's customer context and Agentforce could connect marketing activity with sales, commerce and service.
Those are descriptions of a proposed future combination. The announcement gives no shipped joint product, integration schedule, customer migration plan or new pricing. Buyers evaluating the two platforms can examine Braze's documented features today, while treating the Salesforce product benefits as contingent on closing and subsequent execution.
