YouTube Music [began rolling out](https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/youtube-music-ai-labels/) labels on October 14 for tracks it identifies as created primarily with generative AI. A listener will see a label on the player page when AI played a significant role in a track, according to YouTube. Tapping it opens a menu with more information about the disclosure.

YouTube gives a song with an AI-generated composition and vocals as an example of the kind of music covered. It says the labels will also come to the main YouTube app, without giving a date for that expansion. The announcement describes a rollout beginning October 14; it does not establish that every listener or track has the new label yet.

## The big change

- **What changed:** YouTube says it draws on music-partner declarations and its own detection tools to decide which tracks receive a listener-visible label. It has not specified how those inputs map to the label.
- **Why it matters:** For music that mixes human and generated work, the label signals substantial AI involvement without supplying a complete production history or proving the entire track was AI-made.
- **What to watch:** YouTube says the music labels will expand to the main YouTube app. It has not announced when.

## What the label tells a listener

The player label signals YouTube's assessment of substantial generative AI involvement. It does not, by itself, show which parts of a particular recording were generated, who made the other parts, or whether the entire track was made by AI. YouTube's announcement uses both “created primarily” and “played a significant role” to describe the music it plans to label, but does not give a precise threshold connecting those descriptions to a displayed label.

YouTube says it draws on information from music partners and its own detection tools. Its [guidance for music partners](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/17124251) lets them declare a delivery fully, partly or not made with generative AI; an omitted declaration is treated as unknown unless other signals allow YouTube to make a determination. The guidance gives examples of partial use, including a generated instrumental layer beneath human-recorded vocals. It does not explain which partner declaration or detection result causes this particular player-page label to appear.

That distinction matters to creators as well as listeners. A labeled track may involve human work, and an unlabeled track should not be taken as proof that no AI was used. YouTube has not published an accuracy evaluation for the music detection tools in these sources, or a count of tracks that will receive the new label. BIG CHANGE has not tested the feature.

## A different listener control at Deezer

[Deezer's separately announced search filter](https://bigchange.ai/blog/deezer-ai-music-search-filter-toggle-2026) addresses a different listener action: hiding music it identifies as fully AI-generated from search results when that planned setting is switched on. YouTube's new label informs listeners on the player; YouTube has not announced a comparable search filter in this release.

The official announcement documents the rollout start, player-page label and tap menu, the composition-and-vocals example, partner information and detection tools, and a planned expansion to the main YouTube app. It provides no exact public-label threshold, detection accuracy or completed-rollout count.
