A page summary can look plausible while changing a number or overlooking a qualification. This local Python recipe captures one permitted public HTML page, asks a model for a short summary, two to five points with quotations, and an estimate of the page's writing tone. It saves the captured text alongside the result so a person can check every claim before making a separate approved or held review receipt.

The workflow is designed for a reader who has permission to retrieve the page and send its text to an OpenAI API project. It handles one chosen URL, not a site crawl. Its completion signal is a local review file tied by hashes to the draft and capture. The code below is the complete original implementation. We checked it with seven offline tests using synthetic fixtures; we did not analyze a live page or make a paid model call. The Responses API and Structured Outputs guide document the interface used here.

The big change

  • What changed: This recipe turns a one-page model analysis into a local draft linked to the captured text, followed by a separate human decision. The raw HTML is represented by a hash rather than retained in the draft.
  • Why it matters: A reader can check the summary and quoted points against the same text the model received, then preserve a held version when an interpretation or omission is wrong. The receipt identifies the reviewed draft; it cannot certify the page's truth.
  • What to watch: The choice of page and the human comparison remain decisive. Rights to process its text, incomplete HTML extraction, account access and provider charges limit when the recipe is useful. A changed page calls for a new capture and review.

Run the local workflow

These commands use Windows PowerShell and the Python launcher. Install Python 3.12, then confirm the selected interpreter:

PowerShell
py -3.12 --version

The command should report Python 3.12. If the launcher is unavailable, install it with Python 3.12 or invoke a verified Python 3.12 executable in place of py -3.12 throughout. Save the three code blocks below as analyze.py, approve.py, and test_analyze.py in the same local directory. The recipe uses Python's standard library, so it has no package installation step. Use an OpenAI API project and key with access to gpt-6-luna; model availability and limits depend on your account. Run this on your own machine, not as a URL-fetching public service.

In the same PowerShell 7 session that will run the live command, enter the key at a masked prompt. The command text contains no key:

PowerShell
$apiKeySecure = Read-Host -Prompt "OpenAI API key" -AsSecureString
$env:OPENAI_API_KEY = [System.Net.NetworkCredential]::new("", $apiKeySecure).Password
Remove-Variable apiKeySecure

PowerShell's Read-Host -AsSecureString masks input. .NET's NetworkCredential constructor accepts the secure string, and its Password property supplies the ordinary string the Python process needs. The environment variable holds that string in the current PowerShell process and is inherited by the Python child; it is not a permanent user or machine setting. Do not print it or put it in a source file, screenshot or log. PowerShell's environment-variable guide documents that process scope. Close the session after the task or remove the variable after the live call.

  1. Choose a public HTTPS page that returns server-rendered UTF-8 HTML and whose terms, robots policy, and content rights permit retrieval, processing, and any quotation you plan to use. Avoid login, paywall, private and personal pages. A page being readable in a browser alone does not grant reuse rights. The script rejects redirects, custom ports, nonpublic IP resolution, non-200 or non-HTML responses, more than 1 MB of HTML, and more than 20,000 characters of extracted text. It does not render JavaScript or inspect images and PDFs. Its UTF-8 decode replaces malformed bytes; the parser cannot tell which HTML text a browser visually hides. Inspect the captured text before accepting a result.
  2. Run the offline checks first:
PowerShell
py -3.12 -B -m unittest -v test_analyze.py

The tests supply their own HTML and model-response fixtures. They need no key or network. They cover selected code paths, not a live page or model. After choosing and checking a suitable URL, run the live path with a fresh output filename in an existing writable directory:

PowerShell
py -3.12 analyze.py https://example.org/your-public-page output.json
Remove-Item Env:OPENAI_API_KEY

Replace the example URL with the page you are authorized to process. This live command can incur provider charges. The destination check happens before fetching or calling the provider, and an existing result is never overwritten. A failed or timed-out request has unknown usage; check your provider usage before deciding whether to make a new attempt. The script does not retry automatically.

output.json contains the source URL, capture time, extracted source_text, the parsed model analysis, response ID and usage if supplied, and a pending human approval field. It stores the SHA-256 of the exact raw HTML bytes received, but does not save those HTML bytes or the complete provider response. Its separate text hash covers the UTF-8 encoding of the saved extracted text. These hashes identify the capture and draft; they do not establish the page's truth or prove that a quoted sentence supports the model's interpretation.

  1. Open the draft locally, for example with notepad output.json, and read the entire source_text. Compare each sentence of the summary, every point, its evidence quote, numbers, dates, and omitted qualifications. A quote's presence is only a literal match. Treat the tone label as an estimate about the captured writing, not the author's intention. Check the original page and its rights again before reusing excerpts. The included approval script records your decision; it does not edit the model's answer.
  2. When that comparison is complete, run:
PowerShell
py -3.12 approve.py output.json "Your name"

Type APPROVE only if the saved draft is supportable as written. Any other response, or a nonempty correction note, records held in output.review.json. If a claim or omission needs correction, use a review note and type HOLD when prompted:

PowerShell
py -3.12 approve.py output.json "Your name" --corrections "Describe the correction needed"

Preserve that draft and receipt. To make a corrected candidate without changing the capture fields, copy the draft to a new filename, open it, and edit its analysis values under human control:

PowerShell
Copy-Item -LiteralPath output.json -Destination output-revised.json
notepad output-revised.json
py -3.12 approve.py output-revised.json "Your name"

Review the exact revised file against source_text before typing APPROVE; use a further hold if it still needs work. A fresh analysis run with a new output name is another route, but it can incur another charge. The script computes the draft-file hash and copies the capture hash fields from that draft into the review receipt. It does not independently reconstruct the page or certify the source's truth. Each review file is created once and will not overwrite a previous decision. Neither result publishes the summary. Keep the output private: the captured page text and result may contain material you should not distribute.

What the checks establish

The offline suite checks the output and text/hash binding, rejection of failed or incomplete model responses and absent quotations, no fetch or provider call after an output-name collision, handling of hidden or excessive fixture text, untrusted instructions embedded in page text, and separate held and approved review receipts. Its example sales figures are synthetic test data, not findings about a real business. HTTP status and redirect paths are implemented but were not exercised by this suite. These checks cannot establish the model's factual accuracy, resistance to every page instruction, or successful operation on a real website.

The request sends extracted page text to the Responses API once with a strict JSON schema, no browsing tool, and store: false. The model's output still needs the human source comparison. According to the current GPT-6 Luna model page, the standard short-context text rates checked for this recipe were $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. Cache, regional, and other processing rates differ; actual cost and usage remain unknown here. Confirm current access and pricing in your project before a live call. store: false does not mean zero provider retention; review OpenAI's data controls and your organization's terms before sending a page.

A 401 or 403 requires access or key correction; a 429 calls for a quota or rate-limit check. On a 5xx response, timeout, or uncertain send, inspect usage before another attempt. Do not copy provider error bodies into public logs. DNS may change between the script's address check and its connection, so its URL checks are not a server-side request forgery defense for a service accepting untrusted URLs. Use this as a single-user local tool. When the page changes, capture it into a new output and repeat the review.
