Apple says the Siri AI beta now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish alongside English in its 27.2 software releases. The October announcement expands the assistant beyond September's English rollout. BIG CHANGE has not tested enrollment or performance in the new languages.
The big change
- What changed: Siri AI's language list grew from English to six languages with the 27.2 beta. Apple's wider AI system has supported more languages, but this particular assistant had its own rollout.
- Why it matters: People using one of the five additions can check Siri AI access without changing to English. Their device, matched language settings and region still matter.
- What to watch: Apple plans four more Siri AI languages before year-end. The device and regional rules will still matter when those languages arrive.
The language gap this update narrows
The September Siri AI announcement opened the beta in English and promised five more languages in October. The Japan release is dated October 26 and the Australia release October 27. These are locale versions of the same 27.2 announcement.
Product scope | Current language list | What the list establishes |
|---|---|---|
Siri AI beta | English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish | Listed in Apple's 27.2 release |
Apple Intelligence generally | Those six plus simplified and traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese | A broader set; individual features still differ |
Apple's general Apple Intelligence guide lists one clear exception within its wider language set: Mail suggestions remain English-only.
Apple's current iPhone Siri settings guide says Expressive Voices remains limited to American and British English on specified iPhones. Siri AI language support does not extend every voice option.
Device and enrollment checks
Apple's Siri AI setup guide requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device and matching device and Siri languages. Its other eligible devices include iPad mini (A17 Pro), M1-or-later iPads, paired supported Apple Watches and Apple Vision Pro. Apple's iPhone settings guide starts Siri AI eligibility at iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 models; its Mac guide lists M1-or-later Macs and MacBook Neo (A18 Pro). The October 22 setup guide's English-only wording predates the newer six-language release.
For setup, that guide documents Settings → Siri → Try Siri AI (Beta), followed by voice enrollment, privacy choices and a waitlist. Apple says waiting times vary and the software downloads when access is ready. We did not test setup in the new languages.
Apple's iPhone guide lists iOS 27-compatible models back to the iPhone 11, while Siri AI eligibility starts at iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 models.
Where the language addition does not open access
Apple says Siri AI is unavailable in the EU on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, and to users under 13. Its October 22 Siri AI guide permits Mac and Vision Pro use in English with an EU Apple Account. Apple's Mac Screen Time guide lists six languages but says availability varies by region. New-language EU access on these platforms remains unconfirmed.
On Mac, Screen Time can also select Siri AI or Siri Classic as the allowed version and block individual capabilities, according to the same guide. Those controls are separate from the language and regional requirements.
Mainland China has a separate rule. Apple's Apple Intelligence guide says its newer features do not work on supported devices bought in mainland China. For devices bought elsewhere, they fail when the user is in mainland China and the Apple Account region is mainland China. The Siri AI setup guide adds an account-only rule: Siri AI will not work when the Apple Account region is mainland China, even outside China.
Apple's general guide says Siri AI has daily usage limits and expanded use will carry a future fee. The separate Apple Intelligence Usage Terms say Apple can change limits and a feature may become unavailable until its allowance resets. The documents give no universal daily number, price or date for expanded access.
Apple describes Siri AI as able to find information across messages, email and photos, answer questions about onscreen content and take actions in apps. Its September launch document establishes those as product capabilities. BIG CHANGE has not measured how they perform in the new languages.
