The big change

What changed: Google has put a new frontier model into selected cyber defenders' hands while most developers and subscribers still cannot access it. Its headline capability and price claims are now public ahead of a public API.

Why it matters: Independent Vals AI evaluations place Argon first on broad knowledge work and a finance agent test, so teams comparing models have a serious new candidate. The uneven results across tasks and restricted rollout leave their own workflow results and costs unresolved.

What to watch: Google has named paid API customers and AI Ultra subscribers as the next groups, without a date. A documented model ID and service limits will let developers test the work that matters to them, including whether the claimed million-token output can be used in practice.

DoorDash is adding AI tools across four parts of its delivery business: finding and checking out orders, answering courier questions, using restaurant customer data, and letting workplace agents place orders. DashBuddy is live in the U.S. and Canada, according to DoorDash. Text ordering is a selected-user pilot with a U.S. waitlist, the new Dasher app features are rolling out, and the corporate connector remains a limited beta. Some DashOS integrations are planned for 2027. In each case, access and human authority determine which actions the AI can take.

What changed: OpenAI and Synopsys have agreed to develop a specialized model that operates chip-design tools. The proposed service would bundle the model, computing capacity and Synopsys licenses, according to the companies.

Why it matters: Engineers would be able to assign design objectives while agents operate EDA tools, inspect their output and propose iterations for human review, if the planned workflow works as described. That would move some tool operation into the model's job; the September 30 release does not establish a faster or better finished chip.

What to watch: Customer access terms, supported workflows and measured design results will determine whether this becomes a useful engineering service. The companies report early engagements, but have not published those details or an availability date for GPT-Synopsys.

OpenAI's new Agents API computer-use path gives developers a hosted browser session with an event stream, user decisions on website origins, browser activity records and cleanup through the API. For a bounded public-page task, the practical integration is to handle those stages explicitly and verify the returned title and URL. Access to an origin, completion of a turn and correctness of the answer are three different observations.

DeepSeek has released its DeepGEMM Ascend kernel code for the Ascend 950 series.

Developers can inspect and build familiar GEMM and related model operations for that hardware. The release documents CANN 9.20 and an Ascend-specific scaling-factor layout.

This gives Ascend 950 teams kernel code to evaluate against their own model shapes. DeepSeek reports near-limit results on one Ascend 950DT test setup; BIG CHANGE has not run the kernels.

A Gem can be recreated as reusable instructions that Gemini can use in an existing chat, either when you select the Skill or when Gemini finds it relevant. Google also says it will automatically recreate Gems as Skills when Gem support ends. The manual steps are for people with access to Skills who want to make the move earlier. What changed: AP reports that an FTC spokesperson confirmed an investigation into OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies. CBS reports that a spokesperson confirmed planned information requests and scrutiny under the FTC Act.

Why it matters: Consumer safety questions are under federal scrutiny. The FTC Act frame is reported, but the agency has published no current order identifying the exact conduct, provisions or compulsory process.

What to watch: A public FTC demand, order or announcement stating the inquiry's scope and authority, and any later formal action. Those records would clarify the stage and legal basis.

Muse can now draw on connected business accounts and services, including Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages, Meta ad accounts and selected outside tools. Meta has added these features to its existing personal agent.

Access to social activity, sales and financial tools gives Muse more context for drafting work and flagging items. Owners choose which records to expose and which actions to approve. Meta has not supplied measured revenue or time savings from the new business features.

Meta says publishing, sending and spending require approval. Anyone evaluating Muse should check the permissions shown for each connector and the approval settings before granting access. The full connector list appears inside the app, while account access remains limited.
